From Couch to 5 K – Week 1 in Review

Remember how I said I was going to get fit? Well, I’m actually doing it !! Snaps for Teru. My aim is to run a 5 K this summer and I’m going to write about my progress every week so feel free to do it with me.

I’ve been using the C25K app which gradually introduces running for beginners. It can be quite daunting when you first start but I find the app really helpful as I know I’m making progress. To be honest, if I didn’t use the app I think I wouldn’t push myself as much as I have been. Running is hard at first, it’s not going to be easy but I always feel so good after I’ve finished a hard run.

Week 1 consists of:

5-minute brisk warm-up walk

Alternating 60 seconds of jogging with 90 seconds of walking for 20 minutes

5 Minute Cooldown walk

How I found it:

It was tough, I was sweating buckets on day one and all the days, to be honest, but I felt amazing afterwards. Endorphins are real !! By day 3 I could feel my breathing getting better and my fitness improving. It’s still early days but I’m really enjoying it so far. My advice is to stretch well before and after and always take the rest day in between runs. I know it can be tempting to just try and rush through the programme but your body needs time to rest. I took two days off between run two and three as I had to just listen to my body. Overall I think this is going to be a good programme.

Teru xx
