How I’m Getting Through Lockdown

Now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell how I’m surviving lockdown with Rona in the air (I know that was super corny of me). So, life right now is HECTIC, there’s been a massive shift all over the world, with life as we know it on pause for now. To begin with, my anxiety was through the roof – it was really strange being in my house all day and working from home has been quite an adjustment. Respecting lockdown is1000% worth it, given how many lives will be saved. It’s also been great to see how communities are rallying and people are coming to respect healthcare workers more (my sister is a doctor and I know hard she works to help people). I’ve watched as the people around me have embraced staying indoors to protect others. I feel like I am now in a good headspace and wanted to share how I’m looking after myself in these unprecedented times.

So, you know how I’m always talking about achieving goals, well I’m still trying to level up in mind body and spirit. Spending time in my home has forced me to get more comfortable with the woman I am, and I’m clearer on who want to be. I’m spending more time working towards becoming Teru 2.0. I’m reading more, moving more (inside my house) and thinking about my space with more intention. Here are the things I’m doing to get through this period:

Learning new Things. I’m an avid reader and all about becoming the best version of myself. I especially love any text that can help me see myself clearer, I really believe that consuming the arts nourishes my soul (I’m being corny again lol). Recently, I’ve been listening to an audiobook called Mindset, it’s written by Dr Carlos S Dweck and its fantastic. It’s about what it means to have a growth mindset rather than a fixed. The former is about loving learning and being resilient to reach great accomplishments. The latter is the belief that you are born with a level of ability that cannot be moved, you either have it or you don’t. I’m seeing myself in the growth mindset as I’ve always believed that you can change your script, maybe hoped is a better word for that. In adulthood, I’ve seen the evidence in my history that you can work hard to learn new things and increase your ability through hard work. I use Audible to get my audiobooks and as I’ve got an Amazon prime account, I get one a month included. I’ll link here to Amazon (*affiliate link) for Prime and Audible.

Move your body. I don’t know about you but I always feel so much better overall when I’m getting regular exercise. I train with a personal trainer as an online-only client (@dr.erereikogho – giver her a follow). I’m lucky that she’s a medical doctor and finishing up a masters in sport and exercise science so I’m working with an expert (She’s also a rockstar and my sister). I’ve just started her home workout plan and I’ll be documenting my progress on here and on Instagram so follow me (@cocotulips) if you want to see how I’m getting on with levelling up my body.

Separate your Spaces. I find drawing boundaries between my workspace, sleep space and chilling space works really well for me. Instead of setting up my desk in my bedroom, I work in my living room so I can keep my bedroom strictly for sleeping. I will also change the layout of my living room when I’ve finished working for the day so it feels like a different setting for me to chill in the evening.

How are you getting through these times, let me know on Instagram (@cocotulips)

Teru xx
